To your right are the walls. Approach them and “take a look”. What you see is the largest lake in Montenegro, Skadar Lake. It is not known which story is more incredible – how it came about according to tradition or how it really came about.
According to the legend, the lake was created from the shed tears of a Montenegrin fairy, to which God did not want to fulfill his wish to turn her blue eyes into black, but blinded her because of her vanity and whim. God, amazed by the beauty of that lake, decided to restore her sight. And the fairy, when she saw the magnificent landscape she had inadvertently created, told God that she had never seen anything more beautiful in her life and that she could live there for the rest of her life. God fulfilled her wish and gave her a lake with all the surrounding hills.
On the other hand, the facts show that this lake was a larger pond until the middle of the 19th century and that the surrounding population called it ‘big mud’. One year, after a great storm, the Drim River caused so much sludge and sand from the Albanian mountains that its trough shifted, and the former lake became the largest lake in the Balkans.
